Romanesco

Romanesco is a broccoli/cauliflower hybrid that dates back to sixteenth century Italy. It is also called fractal broccoli. The complex design of the tightly packed florets is an example of phyllotaxis - the fractal patterning that can appear in nature. One common example of this is the arrangement of the seeds in a sunflower. These came from my garden and following the scan...I devoured my subjects. A delicious composition!
