Pad Lurker

While exploring the shoreline of the Oxbow, I came upon a recently deceased Brownish-Gray Fishing Spider, the largest spider found in New England. (Females can be 3" across.) They eat insects on the water's surface and an occasional small fish or tadpole below and can remain underwater for 30 minutes, using the air that clings to their body. Non-poisonous...fascinating, once we move beyond the fear.
I posed the spider with waterlilies, as it might appear in nature.
