Catalpa

Catalpa trees are native to the southern US, but are now common in Massachusetts. Seedpods over a foot long form after the spectacular flowers are pollinated. The big heart shaped leaves drop off the branches all at once, following autumn's first killing frost. Because these trees are considered "weeds" by many, I suspect their flowers are often under-appreciated. Shame!
