Ascension

The shell of an emerging dragonfly larva on the stem of an unknown plant, along with striped wintergreen and Indian pipe/Corpse plant/ Monotropa uniflora flowers. The latter two are common July wildflowers in the NE woods. Unlike most plants, Indian pipe has no chlorophyll, and therefore isn't green. It is parasitic and mycorrhizal, much like some fungi. It obtains nutrients from tree roots and Russula mushrooms . However, it gives nothing back in return, so this is not a symbiotic relationship, like many species of mushrooms. The background is decorative paper.
